I’d like to follow up on the Syonan Purchase Card post kindly contributed by sk8_ha.

50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF WORLD WAR II series
The stamp shows the long (and patient) lines of people waiting to collect their share of the rations. The essential foods rationed out are listed in the stamp: Rice, Sugar, Salt.
I remember waiting in long lines like this with my mother. When It came to our turn and we held these precious packets of foodstuff in our hands, it was like receiving manna from Heaven. (At this point, Dr Tan had to pause to wipe away his tears and regain his composure. Dr Tan requested that his reaction be reflected in this entry. He shed tears as the memories of him lining up with his mother for rations really evoked strong emotions. He was thinking of stopping then and suggested finishing the post at home.)
Hopefully, this stamp issued in 1995, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the End of World War II, helps us to remind us not to take our food (and our meals) for granted. It always pains me to see at a foodcourt, or coffeeshop, plates of half-finished food.

Welcome to yesterday.sg, Wee Kiat. Your maiden post surely didn't disappoint at all. I am looking forward to read more of your interesting experiences and stories. In a way, it is very fortunate that most of us didn't have to go through those difficult WW2 times. Your post also helps to remind us not to take our peace for granted.
