The resting place of Ngah Ibrahim

A follow up from Where is the resting place of Ngah Ibrahim? with a follow-up report from the New Straits Times.

A quick refreshing of memory: Ngah Ibrahim was the Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) of Perak until 1877, where he was implicated in the murder of the local British Resident and exiled to Seychelles. In the end, he never got to return to his homeland and was buried in Singapore in 1895. Along with recent restorations to his fort and administrative complex in Matang, news reports also said that arrangements were made to repatriate his remains in Singapore back to Perak.

The last time I posted about this, I tried to make several queries as to where the Singapore resting place of Ngah Ibrahim was without any results. A breakthrough came when the NST broke a follow up story on the returning of his remains to Matang. According to the report, Ngah Ibrahim was “Buried in an obscure corner of Singapore’s Al-Junid Muslim cemetery”.

The location of the grave was discovered “from a 1952 thesis by Universiti Malaya student Wee Choon Siang”. Malaysia authorities have arranged with our National Environment Agency and the Singapore Islamic council to have Ngah Ibrahim’s remains repatriated back home.

So, now we know… And the second question is,

Where is the Al-Junid Muslim Cemetary? Anybody like to share any info on that?
