I Can Relate to This!

If you’ve got nothing to do in Houston, TX…

If you’ve got nothing to do from the end of July to the middle of August, AND you happen to be in Houston, Texas, head down to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and check out a film exhibition from the Shaw Brothers, who have their roots in Singapore.

From the MOFAH site:

Heroic Grace II: The Chinese Martial Arts Film

In recognition of the martial arts film as a central and enduring genre of Chinese cinema, the MFAH introduced “Heroic Grace” in 2003, featuring restored prints from the library of the legendary Shaw Brothers Studios in Hong Kong. Shaw Studios originated when two brothers from Shanghai—Tan Sri Runme Shaw (1901—1985) and Sir Run Run Shaw (born 1907)—created an empire in Singapore that expanded to Hong Kong in the 1950s. Please note schedule changes from the printed film calendar.

This sequel showcases additional films made between 1972 and 1980. The achievements of the genre´s most innovative directors prior to the 1980s have gone unheralded beyond circles of specialists and fans, largely because no good prints were in circulation. “Heroic Grace II” presents newly struck 35mm prints in their original, widescreen format with new English subtitles.
