The Singapore Heritage Society is organising a public forum on our movie heritage tomorrow, 29 July, at the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library from 1 to 4.30pm.

Details from the NLB website:
Recent publications on Singapore films seem to suggest that the history of the medium is written only by Western writers, with a disturbing lack of interest by local researchers. This forum puts to rest that assumption as it brings together passionate cinephilies to talk about the politics and the popular in our filmmaking heritage. The speakers are Dr Lai Chee Kien, from Architecture Department, NUS, Ms. Ong Sor Fern, from the Asian Film Archives and a Straits Times film reviewer, Straits Times, Dr. Kenneth Paul Tan, from Political Science Department, NUS and Dr. Tim Barnard, from History Department, NUS. Admission is FREE, but registration is required. To register, email nlprogs@nlb.gov.sg and indicate, “Film making in Singapore” in the title.
Presentations lined up:
DR. LAI CHEE KIEN
Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore
Early Hollywood movies ‘set’ in Singapore: from Singapore Sal to Saint Jack
MS. ONG SOR FEN
Film Correspondent, Life! The Straits Times
