The Yellow Mansion

Visitors to the Malay Heritage Centre might notice an ostensibly colourful building beside it - The Yellow Mansion, or Gedung Kuning, was owned by Malay philantrophist Haji Yusoff from 1912 and remained in his family’s estate until it was acquired by the government in 1999. Rich in detail, the Gedung Kuning website is a window into the history and architecture of the mansion and Haji Yusoff’s family.

The Yellow Mansion brings to mind a really lame joke:
If a red house is made of red bricks, and a white house is made of white bricks, and a yellow house is made of yellow bricks, what is a green house made of?

… glass.

I never quite noticed that building, but now am keen to visit. The website is cool - lotsa content to slowly sieve through. My favourite part has to be the Javanese words. First time I've come across Javanese on the web. Loves it!

Hi! >If a red house is made of red bricks, and a white house < That reminds me of the 'red house'. One was a cafe at the corner of Bras Basah Road and Victoria Street, opposite the old CHIJ. The other 'red house' was also a cafe at East Coast Road near the famous Katong Laksa shops. This one was featured in the Straits Times a few months back. If I remember the article correctly, it mentioned that this building is owned by a prominent Malay family.
