Sayang Singapore
Singapore International Storytelling Festival 2006
11 - 13 August 2006
Organised by the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS) ~ Supported by the National Museum of Singapore
Celebrate National Day with a difference at Sayang Singapore. This event features a selection of our finest Singaporean storytellers presenting a collection of stories dedicated to Singapore. The stories have universal appeal and touch on meaningful values related to our rich culture and history of the Lion City…
- Rediscover long-forgotten legends of tigers and tyrants; pirates and princesses; heroes, kings and commoners. Find out what happened to Raja Suran - who wanted to conquer the world, Paduka Sri Maharaja - in the attack of the swordfish; and Badang - the poor, hungry slave…
- Sail through treacherous weather and stormy seas with Two Sisters - Linah and Minah, and be prepared to Move Mountains as you seek your fortune in the Belly of the Carp.
- Delight in quirky tales closer to our times that shed new light on the seemingly familiar - for example, what is the Tale of the Tail? Come and be introduced to Mr Ho, Ovidia Thuppalae, Lai Wan Chee and to more recent immigrants on our shores.
The delicate chords of the accompanying Javanese Gamelan of the Singa Nglara Gamelan Ensemble provide a gentle backdrop for the stories.
