Casting Call: The Peranakan Association throws the Belachan out with the Bathwater!

Expecting this to be another heritage showcase fit for a museum? Think again. This is NOT Wayang Peranakan, a malam jolly song-and-dance, or a campy farce revolving around a squawking matriarch.

The Peranakan Association is looking to fill six acting roles in a bold new production by its Youth Group. For the first time, young voices will examine the significance and validity of Peranakan culture in today’s context.

Dates & Times:
17 Sep, Sun, 3 – 6pm
22 Sep, Fri, 7 – 9pm
23 Sep. Sat, 2 – 6pm

(A 10-minute walk from Aljunied MRT Station)

Refreshments will be served at the auditions.

Gentlemen – 3 roles available; these roles are suitable for men aged 20 thru 40. No preference with regards to ethnicity or build.
Ladies – 3 roles available; these roles are suitable for women aged 20 thru 60. No preference with regards to ethnicity or build.

As the production is in English, proficiency in the language is a prerequisite.

Commitment Level

Rehearsals will be held once a week for a four-hour duration commencing Oct thru Dec 06. This will increase to two or three times a week in Jan thru mid-Feb 07. Rehearsals will be on either weekday evenings or at weekends.

The performances will be held in late Feb 07 (during the first week of Chinese New Year) at the Play Den in the Arts House.

Remuneration

Being a heritage association, The Peranakan Association is unable to pay commercial rates. However, we intend to disburse a small honorarium to each participant. There’ll be lots of great free makan!
