I Can Relate to This!

A Visit to HealthZone

Last week I visited what is possibly Singapore’s only gallery dedicated to Your Body - HealthZone. And surprisingly (or not), I actually managed to work up a sweat.

At the Fitness Funhouse, you can try out the different interactive (read: exercise ^_^) machines while learning more about the benefits of fitness and exercise.

For example, just how high can you jump? I only managed about 20cm above my height. Not a very flexible person, I am.

Or if you’re really up for a challenge, try the Vertical Limit exercise and see just how many flights of stairs you can climb in 1 minute. You’ll be surprised at the results. (I actually managed to climb about 80 steps… and I don’t even like to exercise. >_<)

If you’re brave perhaps, you might wanna spare 20cents and step up onto one of these machines that check your weight, height and Body Mass Index (BMI). (My results are a mortal secret.) It’ll tell you if you’re healthy or at risk of contracting heart disease (touchwood).

After the Fitness Funhouse, proceed on to the Exciting Eatery, which covers every Singaporean’s favorite topic: Food. :D What’s good and what isn’t? (And i’m not referring to taste. >_<) You'll find out some things you never wanted to know about your favorite food. (I found out that you need to do about 80 minutes of tennis to work off the calories from 1 plate of carrot cake. Oh, delicious sin.)

Other topics related to health are also covered:

For example, at the Addiction Mall, you can find out how drugs harm your body.

And at Tooth Terrain, other than jumping on this larger-than-life tongue cushion, you can learn more about dental care and tooth friendly foods.

Teenagers (or parents) might want to check out the Puberty Passage, which chronicles the changes to the body that occur during puberty.

And if you’re worried about getting old (who isn’t? :S), head to the Seniors Spot, where you’ll find out some health concerns of the elderly.

HealthZone is especially great for kids as there’s not only lots to learn but also lots to play with. If you want to give your favorite kid an interesting birthday (and maybe get them to learn something about staying healthy), HealthZone actually hosts birthday parties on their premises (starting from a reasonable $10 per child).

HealthZone is located at 3 Second Hospital Ave, near Outram MRT. It is open from 1pm - 5pm on Mondays and 9am to 5pm Tuesdays and Saturdays. Admission is $3/adult and $1.50/child.
