This morning, I received a cryptic SMS from Shaun Wong of the Yesterday.sg team. All it said was: “shanghaitoys.wordpress.com/”
Excitedly, I checked and yeah, Museum Roundtable member Marvin Chan of the Museum of Shanghai Toys is blogging! His Wordpress blog is all decked out in red and black and has lovely and large pictures! Hooray, this is only the third museum blog in Singapore!
Remember people, don’t be passive, feed the hungry blogger - click the link and let Marvin know your comments!

Apparently friends in China during one of Marvin’s shows suggested penning a blog to provide a personable feel. Afterall, the whole process of this museum is a personal journey.
Fellow toy enthusiast Shaun Wong empathises with the passionate venture Marvin Chan and his wife embarked on when they setup the Museum of Shanghai Toys. So when Marvin asked him about setting up a blog, he was talking to the right man. After returning from a recent show in Hong Kong, they met and voila! minutes later, the third Museum Rountable blog was born!
The first blog post of 29th May 2007 simply says,
“Hi thanks for dropping by, in this blog, I hope to share with you stories and pictures of my collection of Shanghai Toys. I run a museum in Singapore, aptly (or so I’d like to believe) named the Museum of Shanghai Toys. “
He’s posted the Explore Singapore! You Tube that featured his museum and one on the Hong Kong show with lots of colourful photos. The blog is still being tweaked and Marvin has realised there is wealth of infomation he can share, and very quickly too.
Shaun knew I’d be excited because I started Raffles Museum News in June 2004 and have been encouraging other museums to start blogging. So much happens behind the scenes in museums, and it’s nice to get a peek. And blogging tools have become really easy to use. But even this “Museum Roundtable” initiative, Yesterday.sg (Feb 2006), has yet to engage museum bloggers.
In July 2006, the yet to be opened Army Museum started A! Musing. It’s infrequent but amusing and although there are no comments and is anonymous, there is an RSS feed.
With 45 museums and galleries in Singapore, let’s hope we don’t have to wait years before the next museum blog emerges!
