A hindu book i chanced upon in the Asian Civilisation Museum’s webpage
I feel that this is an interesting artifact as its is basically a compiled version of all the holy books formed into a book giving a short summary of every deity in the Hindu Religion. I believe that Hinduism is similar to Buddhism in that both have many different gods and different people worship different gods. (I am not very sure) To be able to do a compilation like this, it must be done by an extremely religious person.
He is probably of the Hindu Religion. The pictures are well illustrated and the author of this sacred book definitely would have to go around to look for information in other holy books to form a compilation for the convenience of others. The words at the bottom of each picture does not look like it is extremely long, so i deduce that it would basically be a summary. The words also do not look like english so it is probably a language that most hindus use. The book can be seen as a thick book which means alot of different deities are covered.
The deities are coloured and thus the book cannot be that old. The Asian Civilisation Museum website states that this book was done in 1780. It is available in the NHB collections in the Museum. The book was done in Mysore, Karnataka, south India.
If anyone is interested, you can visit the Website for more information or even visit the Museum.
