*Shrill scream* It’s SCARY!!! HEADLESS FIGURE HELP!!! GAAAH…
Post No.6, 6 being the devil’s number (will I win the Wii at this rate?), therefore a devilish post is required. If you feel squeamish, please navigate away from this page and go to some calmer site, such as Happy Tree Friends. If you read on, we will not be responsible for any decrease in mental health or if you happen to dash into bed, hide under the covers and scream for your mommy.
Ok. The fugure’s…headless. Eep. Handless too in fact. Baically, this is a sculpture of the Shandong Buddha, acquired from China and was existing around the Northern Qi period. Currently resides at the Asian Civillizations museum.
So it’s supposed to be a Buddha sculpture, perhaps in honour of it? Sadly, it appears some people don’t quite know where the basic human organs are, if not they fell off sometime through the ages.
You know, I feel kind of sorry for this sculpture. It was so well-loved and beautiful (probably), and then, it lost its hands and head. Did someone hack them off? Did they simply fall off? Was it made without them? Even though I feel so much fear when I see this sculpture, I sympathize with it. Think about it, think about the disabled people out there. Were they…sad? In fact, ARE they sad? TO be unable to do what others were able to do, it’s depressing you know. But most of them have gotten over it. That’s just great.
Spooky story time! THe following work is FICTIONAL. Let any Buddha out there (or supernatural being) please forgive me for whatever I am about to write.
Once upon a time there was a sculpture. It was a beautiful sculpture of a Shandong Buddha. Everyday, people went to its shrine to pray and offer their thanks and respect (jossticks, whatever). One day, late at night, a thief broke into the shrine! He stole lots of valuable donations! And he accidentally knocked over the sculpture. The head and hands broke off. As he left the shrine, a voice called out to him. He was shocked and ran quickly. Unconsciously, he ran straight into the wall and died through blood loss. A laugh echoed behind him…
I don’t think I can sleep tonight. I need someone to comfort me! ><
