This is a rock crystal brush rest, which is made of jade. I infer that it is made in china, due to the abundance of jade there, and also because the style in which the rocks are potrayed is very similar to how they are potrayed in traditional chinese painting.

Its two most important implications is that the people who learnt it knew how to paint (since it is a brush rest), and also implies that the people who made it knew how to carve crystals to make art. We can conclude that the civilisation from which the brush rest came from is highly developed, and is appreciative of art, creativity and culture.

Due to its hichly intricate detail, we can observe that the brush rest was made for form just as much as function. This implies that it was created in a golden age, where there was time and peace to pay attention to such detail.
