Elegance, beauty and eternity, the various representations of chinese jade. Through the purest of the hearts jade can portray abstract feelings unexplainable in words, this white jade moutain for instance exhibits the majestic upholding, yet small, delicate and clear.
Since ancient times, jade has been known to be “pure” and its quality lies in its elegance. Personally I have not been in much contact with jades except for various times where I entered some jade shops. From what I know, jade has a special quality in that there are cracks, yes CRACKS in the jade which is natural. Although you may think that it is extremely ugly to have cracks in jades I have seen excellent pieces in which carvers have adapted and carved in such a way that the cracks merge into the whole picture.
I find that the most important thing about jades is not so much in the quality, but n the carver. In Chinese, there is a saying that an un-carved jade (玉不琢不成器) will never shine. This is relative to another saying that without a talent seeker there is no talent. Such is like this white jade mountain, if there had been no carver it would remain forever the piece of white stone, unknown to the world. It is only with foresight; with experience and skill can the carvers unravel the seemingly worthless stone.
