Do you know what the ‘tau yew man’ sells? He used to come around to my kampong too, to sell his stuff. In Cantonese we called him, See Yau Lou. Find out as YG blogs about his kampong days here.
another feature of my kampong life that has stayed in my memory is the tau yew man. he would announce his presence with his trademark call of “yew, yew”. the original tau yew man must have been in his fifties when he started making his rounds in my kampong. i had seen him in the neighbouring village and also in tasek utara where i went to visit my school mate.

Gosh! I actually remember the Tau Yew man going around my HDB estate when I was very young (probably the last few years of the trade, 'cos most Singaporeans were moving to HDB estates then).
