The Tiong Bahru Estate blog laments the destruction of a local landmark - the red gourd burner. It was destroyed in May to make way for a 20-room hotel. =(

My feeling is quite mixed at the moment.I’m happy that hotel operators are beginning to take notice of this sleepy enclave and thinks that tourists might be interested in this area.
But at the same time, I feel sad that a Tiong Bahru icon has to be sacrificed to make way for that development.
Read more about the destruction of the red gourd burner. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any pictures of the red gourd burner before it was destroyed. Perhaps someone has an image that can be shared on yesterday.sg or the Tiong Bahru Estate Blog?
(Below is an afternote from Victor Koo.)
You’ve got your prayers answered, Noel. Below is the photo you wanted. I took it in January last year. It must have been “god-sent from the divine forces.”
