Diwali is a vibrant festical celebrated by Hindus all over the world. Falling on 27 October this year, Diwali (also known as Deepavali) might strike a chord as the festival of lights. Besides thanking gods for knowledge, happiness, peace and wealth they’ve been blessed with, Hindus light oil lamps in their homes that morning.
Legend has it that the demon Narakasura who ruled the kingdom of Pradyoshapuram was the typical tyrant - villagers led hard lives under his rule and the demon tortured countless poor souls and imprisoned women in his grand palace. In came Lord Krishna, who vowed to do justice and valiantly slayed the evil Narakasura. His death - rejoiced by everyone all over - was celebrated as Diwali!
Come 27 October, join us at our museums and immerse yourself in the spirit of Diwali! Indulge in a Kathakali performance and shake your booty to a Bhangrarobics workout at the National Museum. If you have kids, drop by the Singapore Philatelic Museum and learn to decorate your very own oil lamp!
Admission to all our museums is free that day - so have you jotted that down in your diary yet?
