I Can Relate to This!

Teddy Bears were born at Mint Museum of Toys

There couldn’t be a better place to learn how to create our very own teddy bear within a museum of toys.

Surrounded by hundreds of mint vintage toys, more than 30 families gathered at the Mint Museum of Toys to make their own personalised teddy bears. They stuffed, dressed it up and even gave their teddies a customised spa treatment!

The Bearie Bear Workshop was held on 26 November and it was a great family bounding session where kids were having lots of fun with their parents creating their own teddy bears. Personally, I was impressed at how well behaved the kids were. There were kids as young as three of age all the way to those in their teens. I can imagine how the instructor felt when he was explaining the process to the bear makers.

Which one should I pick?

After everyone picked their bears, the big group was divided into smaller groups to start stuffing and filling their bears with love.

Look at the excitement in these kids!

After a quick explanation from the instructor, everyone started stuffing their bears with love. Look at the interaction and bonding among the families.

Then bears were weighed and measured for their birth certificate

And finally some kids bought clothes to dress up their bears

Although I didn’t get my hands involved in creating a bear myself, I still totally enjoyed the experience. I can’t wait for such an event in next year’s Explore Singapore programmes. Now I feel like creating a bear for myself!

After the workshop, everyone embarked on a journey of re-discovery at Mint Museum of Toys.

Inside this award winning building, it houses a world-class display of vintage toys and childhood memorabilia from 25 countries. Dating all the way back to the mid-19th-century, you’ll be amazed and fascinated by this home-grown treasure trove which was amassed over 30 years by the museum’s founder.

There were Betty Boop, Batman, Astroboy, Mickey Mouse, Flash Gordon, Green Hornet, The Beatles, Golliwogs, Ultraman, Matchbox Cars, Star Wars items and the list goes on!

I could see parents telling their kids about the familiar games and toys which they’d played with during the childhood. And the children were busy admiring the never seen before toys of their favorite cartoon characters. I also heard one couple discussing how wonderful these collections were and the time, effort and money spent. I can tell they were very impressed.

If you’ve not visited Mint Museum of Toys yet, why not do it during this school vacation with your children?
