I Can Relate to This!

Exploring the former Scott’s Hill

If you have no idea where Scott’s Hill is in Singapore, you’re not alone - Scott’s Hill is the old name for Ann Siang Hill in Chinatown, which in its heyday was prime real estate because of its proximity to the commercial centre of early Singapore. seen this scene that takes us on a four-part journey through Ann Siang Hill in Chinatown - uncovering through pictures and the informative boards that dot the area, the hill’s plantation roots before it passed into the hands (and name) of Chia Ann Siang.

You can almost imagine the smell of cloves and nutmeg that must have once perfumed the hilltop - today, where there once was trees, is now replaced by shophouses.

seen this scene that says:

“But as I walked around Ann Siang Hill Park, saw those pictures, read about the past printed on the boards and now writing about it, these activities have led me to touch base with a facet of the past that no history textbook could ever do.

Is there a point in all these exercises? I don’t have all the answers. What I do know is that by reaching out to the past, I am able to appreciate what I have today.”

Start off on seen this scene that’s Ann Siang Hill series here.

I visited the site recently after many years and was amazed that it was restored very well. I am impressed with the georgian house but was disappointed that I was not allowed to go in to have a look. it would have been very iinteresting to see inside the house and imagine what is would have been like in 1891 and how the residents lived. Pity it was not a museum of life olde days
