More than 50 guests witnessed the unveiling of the National Heritage Board’s various social media initiatives earlier this afternoon at a press-cum-bloggers gathering held at the Singapore Philatelic Museum.

Top on the agenda was the relaunch of this portal, yesterday.sg and the unveiling of the brand new Internet Television platform – Heritage TV (HTV).

HTV host Kimberly Shen, the emcee for the event, walked the guests through the various new features of the portal including the Talkback discussion forum, online albums, interactive maps and the events section.

Already the site, just a few hours old, has proven to be a hit with heritage fans.

Said a Chatbox user who goes by the name of Golden Land: “It’s great! I’m checking it out every time I have free time!”

Veteran blogger Sparklette was also full of praise: “I’m loving this revamped site! It looks absolutely fantabulous! The clock on the logo is wonderful. The Web 2.0 features are an awesome addition. Great job!”

The guests were also among the firsts to watch two episodes of HTV.

First up was a poignant look at a little known historical landmark, the Armenian Church.

And then to liven up the mood, The Making of HTV was aired taking viewers on a quick behind-the-scenes look at how the two-person team behind the production, put the shows together on a wing and a prayer.

While as expected, the bloopers drew giggles, many still came away impressed. “It wasn’t your slick television production as one would expect. It was so unpretentious, so honest in reaching out, I just love it” said Omy’s content producer Chiew Han Joo.

NHB also showcased two other social media outreach initiatives. One was Mission DarkStar, an online game design contest with a heritage theme for youths. Then there was YEAH! which stands for Young Adults for Arts and Heritage. Here the Board hopes to attract youngsters to help it spread the heritage message.
