I think most of us who visit East Coast might have noticed these red-brick structures around the area. That is the Goldkist Beach Resort, formerly it is the Costa Sands Resort (East Coast), it is very near Victoria Junior College. It has its share of ghost stories like other resorts and it has a good deal of history as well.
This resort is quite old, dating back to the 1970s, making it one of the earliest chalets around Singapore. The resort ceased operations in early 2006 when the lease expired. It reopened again in the same year under a new tenant following a makeover.
I had the chance to visit the place yesterday as my friend had his birthday celebration held there. The place is rather quaint, you can still spot some of the old pink lamps around the premises. The turnstiles are no longer in use making it more convenient to move in and out of the place.
They have a group of people who goes around to make sure no rules are broken like no external catering etc to details like no chairs outside the chalet probably due to fire safety concerns. We nicknamed one of them as the RSM aka Resort Sergeant Major.

Yeah, remember the place well. Who don't? Most of our glorious teenage years were bunk at the red cooling brick wall that we call our one and only chalet. You just need to mention 'chalet' and automatically your brain 'click'. Is it true not? Its function of relexation and chilling out with friends, families and relatives during weekends that spill over right through our working life. But not anymore. To my astonishment, the feel wasn't there. The local feel is there. It look more foreign than local. Is it me or the place has evolved without me. Did i missed the train? The amenities looks like a movie from SAW. It's a horror i tell you. You'll never know when a brown 'dough' will crash on top of you. The toilets is in dire. The runoff drains has got no grating whatsoever. The walkway lighting was even as bad. My son almost fell into the runoff drains minus the grating - mind you. The place has become aliend to me and my family. It souls lost forever. Maybe i'm wrong but can it be realign? I doubt so.

This resort has extremely poor customer service. I witnessed shop keeper talking back very loudly toward foreign tourists who had came to Singapore for holiday. I believed Goldkist Chalet had tarnish the reputation or the image of Singapore's service. Strongly encourage to go other chalet as they have way better service.

Worst service ever... There's this indian man who was so afraid to identify himself after arguing with me today. He did not apologise for the wrong info given by the reception and even asked me to leave if I don't like thir service... The website stated clearly that guest could go view the rooms b4 booking. But he refuse to show... Go only if you dun care about service attitude or just looking for a quarrel buddy...

Goldkist chalet has an obvious lack of maintenance: the rooms had broken fans, dirty bedsheets, flickering lights and occasional blackouts. I recommend anyone thinking of going there to book a hotel suite and be done with it- its prices are incredibly exorbitant. The Singapore government should really pull it down lest it tarnishes our reputation. Upgraded resort? My foot....

I read both positive and negative reviews. So confusing. On the other hands, weather is more important. Summer... high hopes... I can't wait.

I'm not happy to hear the the services are not good, because it sounds promising. I guess that if many people say that the place is horrible they do know what they are talking about. well, we can only hope that it will get better.
