Night at the Peranakan Museum

What comes to your mind when you think about spending a night at the museum? Artefacts that come alive? Ben Stiller and the movie, Night at the Museum? How about the Flight of the Night Owl treasure hunt organised as part of the Night Festival 2008?

After the successful run of Night Festival last year, The Peranakan Museum (TPM) is offering free admission for all during the after-hours, from 6pm to 2am this Friday and Saturday (10 & 11July).

Known to many, the Peranakans have a rich and interesting culture. Take this opportunity (especially when admission is free!) to visit the museum and have a go at the quiz on the Peranakan culture, with attractive prizes up for grabs. To challenge yourself further, mystery artefacts will also be displayed to welcome guesses from the members of public.

If you are looking for engaging activities for everyone in the family, then the night will not disappoint. Suitable for both the young and old, you can join in the Peranakan paper jewellery making sessions and bring home these self-created gems. What’s more, you’ll be doing these crafts, which also include tile painting and face painting, in a glow-in-the-dark room! Talk about doing handicrafts under the stars!

To entice you further to head down to TPM on Friday, catch your favourite movies on the big screens in a museum instead of the cinema. Three movies (Night at the Museum, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Satay) will be screened, with the first movie starting at 6pm and the last one ending at 1am.

Other activities also include having your caricature drawn by the talented artists, magic tricks and popular medley performances by the Jazz trio, The Swee G Three. Visit Baba Bling: The Perranakans & Their Jewellery and be dazzled by over 300 exquisite jewellery exhibits belonging to this unique culture.

Besides the preview, special interviews with the cast and sneaks behind the scene will be included as well. Catch these before it is telecasted on Channel 5 on 21 July 2009.

Children can also take part in the self-guided treasure hunts around the museum on Saturday. For a complete list of activities and timings for both days, please visit www.peranakanmuseum.sg.

Spend your Friday and Saturday evenings differently this week - join us at the Peranakan Museum!
