National day … What can I say? We, Singaporeans, celebrated National Day every year without fail eventhough we did quite suffer a lot in the economic downturn . Why? All because of a very simple reason .. we love Singapore ! 9 August 1965 .. The day Singapore was independent . Singapore , a small island – 42km from east to west by 23km from north to south, completely lacking in significant natural resources other than a strategic location . To overcome these constraints , Singapore needs to be very resourceful in building on its strengths and overcoming its limitations . Despite the merger with Malaya failed , Singapore could still pull through . Despite the strikes that occurred ,and Singapore faces shortages in employment and housing , Singapore could still overcome the problems . Despite the communist terror , Singapore could still pull through . Despite the race riots , Singapore could still pull through . Did you realize what particular sentence I repeat ? And that is : SINGAPORE CAN STILL PULL THROUGH ! Eventhough during the past we had limited self-government , year by year Singapore turn out to be a much more prosperous country . Although we had suffered in the economic crisis , Singapore could still pull through and able to come out of the crisis stanger . National Day is for us to celebrate what Singapore have achieved over the years . Despite being small , Singapore’s government looks towards the future . Not only 2 years down the road . But 20 years down the road ! People might laugh at us being a LITTLE RED DOT in the world map . But let me tell you this .. well , I am proud that I live in this LITTLE RED DOT and I am proud to call this my homeland . Singapore has achieved greater heights despite being LITTLE . There’s no problem among our multi-racial country . Singapore could still give us a safe and secure environment and not to forget it is a CLEAN and GREEN country . Everywhere you see here in our country are all GREENERY and that shows that we do care about our environment .
