Congrats to Laokokok of Times of My Life for winning in the Singapore Blog Awards

Laokokok, aka Chris Yew Weng Heng, whose posts are featured regularly here on Yesterday.sg, has won the Omy.sg 2009 Singapore Blog Awards for the Best Individual Blog category. Laokokok has been blogging about life in the past at Times of My Life since 2007, giving us slices of life in the 60s and 70s.
The Straits Times published a small profile of Laokokok yesterday:
Writing under the online moniker of Laokokkok (informal Hokkien phrase for old and crusty), Mr Chris Yew Weng Heng delves into the history of old buildings and streets of Singapore, records practices of yesteryear, or puts up pictures of items most people would have long thrown out on his blog.

When he went on stage to receive his trophy, he received the loudest applause from the crowd, including a standing ovation from people of his generation, such as SPH’s chief executive Alan Chan and Cultural Medallion winner artist Tan Swie Hian.

Congrats, Laokokok! "Times of My Life" is a well-deserved winner for the Singapore Blog Awards. The blog topics on oldies (??)stuff ranging from old calendar, cinema tickets, even newspaper clips of ETV programmes, etc is unbelievable. Its as if you are doing full-time professional investigative journalism with thorough and meticulous research from old maps, old photos from PICAS and your personal collection to blog on nostalgia most people do not bother to remember. Its awe-inspiring. What takes the cake is the old Singapore Videos Remake for National Day 2008. Keep it up! Next year will be the turn of another "Blog of the Same Feather" : )

Chris Yew Weng Heng, internationally known as Laokokok, is an exceptional and remarkable person. I have read most of his blogs and they are all interesting and inspiring. He really deserves to win the prestigious award. Congrats! Mahut
