I read a bit about the etymology of the name “Singapore”. It was all the standard lion city story. However, I came across this explanation of the word in George Bennett’s account of his trip to Singapore. His book was published in 1834.

Any comments?

There is so little information about the origins of the name. Penurunan Segala Raja is hardly objective.

If you give the Merlion a fishing rod, you will have all the bases covered
