I Can Relate to This!

I Love Museums and Here’s Why! (Part 4: Philatelic Museum)

Remember how back then stamp collection was cool in primary school? As we grow older, we view them no longer as “pretty stickers” but as administrative pieces you buy just so you could send out a letter to your pen pal. And there is also the factor of the WWW era that has blocked our appreciation for things like these. Yet stamps are not just a tool to deliver your letters; they tell us stories of the country and its culture.
The Philatelic Museum showcases a wide variety of stamps and mailboxes from around the world, thus giving the museum its colourful and vibrant settings.

Why an envelope when you could do something like THIS!

Can you tell these are DIY stamps? That's right. Mister Lemon didn’t start out with any hat or moustache, no.

Also, don’t miss the current exhibition on one of our neighbouring countries: over at The Spirit of Phillippines, I could sense the hospitality and richness of the Phillippines culture just by looking through the displays.

And if you think that is quite a bit for a stamp museum, then adding on to the plate of exhibits is the TIGER-striped corner for kids to admire the tiger stamps, as well as those of other zodiac, in due celebration for the Year of the Tiger. Lao Hu!

That’s NOT all, because you can’t miss the blushing ladies there—the collection of the Edo-Kimekomi Dolls is a Japanese traditional artwork found in most Japanese households.

P.S: It doesn't take just a day to create these mini dolls.

Now you understand how The Philatelic Museum can be so rich in colour, culture and stamps. Which I found really retro and pleasing, and believe my younger siblings would too. I think I have just found the perfect first step for my younger siblings to embark on.

So the next time you are deciding on a spot to hang out with your friends, family or even date, waste no time—the museums will make for a unique and unforgettable time together. I am sure all museums will prove to be as interesting to everyone else just like it had for me, but if you cannot decide on which to embark first then perhaps the National Museum of Singapore could be a good start for an inspiring trip.

Man, museums are just AWEsome, and I love museums because they are the epitome of Art, Culture and Inspiration all in one.
