For a person who didn’t know what the local museums had to offer, visiting five within the span of two days was surely jaw gapping. To be placed in front of history, culture and art pieces was not only calming for a fast-paced society, but also inspiring.
To be beautiful on the outside, you have to start from within. The National Museum of Singapore, white and mighty, has its content to boost too. With five galleries to go to, one cannot remain ignorant on the development and achievement of Singapore upon exiting the museum. The Singapore Living Galleries are individualised into Food, Fashion, Photography and Film and Wayang, while there is the Singapore History Gallery, which is a more entertaining walkthrough gallery of our Social Studies textbook. I particularly enjoyed the Fashion and Food galleries because I feel that they got it right back then- how our grandparents and parents went about doing food and clothes.

- Just 40 minutes to smoother skin.. DIY and skip the beauty salons.
Back then, food was packed to work and school in these pretty tins.. Would you be tempted for a McChicken if you had rice, vegetables and meat packed for you by Mum?

- The different types of plants and fruits commonly consumed by the locals: Rambutans, Chillis, Lychees..

- The coolness of televisions back then

- Prata-making playing in the background.. and a guy who seemed intrigued on the history of Kok Kok mee
Upon exiting the Singapore Living Galleries is the The Bag exhibition which is situated along the Balcony. Bag carriers between the 1950s to the 1980s are showcased generously - bringing much pleasure to my Old Skool fantasy! In my opinion, and I think many of the Generation Y kakis would agree, these bags carry a better style than the contemporary ones. Won’t somebody revive them brown paper bags already!

- Back then when someone bought Milo, everyone knew.
Still, as much as I love the both the History and Living Galleries, and of course The Bag exhibit (and its bags), the flavour of the month goes to the Quest for Immortality - The World of Ancient Egypt, where I got to meet already-renowned mummies, sphinxes and neatly engraved stones that hold tales and messages for the ancient Egyptians.

- Upon decoding these encryptions, there will be a glow of light emitting from the lines..and a passage will be revealed.
The colossal head of the King is a must see, because only then you can see for yourself the legendary eyes that hold such depth.

Not among the pictures here, do check out the fragmented statue of the squatting man - there’s a charm to him. Oh, and don’t forget to fold yourself a pyramid origami on the way out.

So, Night at the Museum anyone?
