Why are there no petrol stations in the CBD?

It’s not a question that keeps you up at night, but when you think about it, there really aren’t any petrol stations in Singapore’s Central Business District. Why is that so? Peter has a short history of the situation, and how petrol stations were slowly moved out of the CBD starting in the 1970s.
Why were petrol kiosks phased out of the CBD? Peter lists some of the reasons:
1) There were too many petrol stations in the city area rendering uneconomic use of expensive and scare land resource.
2) Petrol stations lie along busy thoroughfares and were seen as causing traffic hazards as vehicles move in and out disrupting a smooth traffic flow.
More reasons in his post on Good Morning Yesterday. What’s more amazing to see is all the old petrol stations in familiar locales within the CBD - you would never have guessed that there were petrol stations there before. How Singapore has changed!

I thought there was still a SPC in the CBD? I cannot recall exactly where but somewhere really close to Raffles Place. Or has it shifted?

The SPC at Golden Shoe Car Park was closed down a few years ago when the car park was being renovated, the void that was the petrol station is now part of the building's street level shops. If you didn't know there was a petrol station there previously, you wouldn't guess it now :)
