The Jewel of Muscat is a reconstruction of an Arab-style ship that sunk in Indonesian waters over a thousand years ago. Since February, it has been making its way from Muscat, Oman to Singapore, following the ancient maritime trade route from the Middle East to Southeast Asia. At its last stop in Georgetown, Penang, I managed to step onboard this historic ship and speak to the project director, Dr. Tom Vosmer, about the Jewel of Muscat project and its journey to Singapore.
You can check out my visit to the Jewel, complete with pictures and videos, here. The Jewel of Muscat left Georgetown last week, and is expected to arrive in Singapore sometime next week in early July, and here it will stay as a gift from the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Singapore. If you’d like to learn more about the Jewel, her construction and her journey from Oman, you can also check out her official website here.
