Painting Conservation, An Exclusive Look Behind the Scenes!

cycle_main

We often visit exhibitions at the museums not realising the hard work behind the scenes that goes into preparing the artworks/artifacts and the setting up of the exhibition itself. There are many ‘unsung heroes’ that give their hearts and souls into ensuring that you the public has the best possible experience when visiting the museums. These heroes could be curators, programmers, conservators, fabricators, electricians, lighting experts, etc.

Starting from today, Yesterday.sg and Heritage TV bring you an exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ look at the painting conservators behind the current exhibition, The Story of Yeh Chi Wei, at the Singapore Art Museum. A review of the exhibition can be found here.

The Heritage Conservation Centre’s (HCC) paintings conservation team support all the museums under the National Heritage Board (NHB). If there are any artworks involving anything with paint that need to be displayed or go on loan, they are responsible for the maintenance and care of it.

The conservators juggle a lot of different aspects in their job, and over the next few weeks, we will bring you an exclusive series of 7 short ‘behind the scenes’ videos of what goes on in restoring the paintings for the Yeh Chi Wei Exhibition. You will discover techniques such as canvas repair, conservation framing, surface cleaning and much much more! Below is an intro video for you. :)

So do check back on Yesterday.sg for updates on our latest ‘behind the scenes’ video!
