While we have a number of heritage sites and buildings, it is not surprising that Singapore would have to be pretty selective about the recognition of such places. Hence, we may not even be aware of the historical significance of some of the buildings that didn’t make the cut - the former Singapore Badminton Hall in Guillemard Road is one such place.
Jerome explains the role the Singapore Badminton Hall in our history:
The hall which was constructed from 1951 to 1952 had seen some significant moments in our history, one of which was the counting of votes in the 1962 referendum for Singapore to merge with the Federation of Malaya (along with the Borneo colonies of Sabah and Sarawak), as well as playing host to the Thomas Cup and many badminton competitions in which we were able to catch many of the illustrious names in the sport over the years.
What has become of the former Singapore Badminton Hall today? Read about is current use in Jerome’s post, Prawns have invaded a historical site.
