To me, the most important event between 1959-2009 is 3 June 1959. 3 June 195 is when Singapore was no longer completely ruled by the British and after 1959 election, Singapore enjoyed full internal self-government. It was the day Singapore was no longer ruled by British. It was one great event that sparked Singapore. At then, Singapore had doubts but they worried for nothing. Singapore now, 2009, had obtained much peace and harmony and everyone is excited about National day.

It was the happiest time and the most difficult time. Singapore started small and not many people have faith. Singapore achieve bit by bit and with the support and help from the citizens, Singapore has became a big nation and live harmoniously and religious together. Years after Singapore was no longer completely ruled by British, Singapore had solved many problems through thick and thin. As a new country starting to form, population grew too. Many people at that time trusted Singapore and population grew. Singapore became strong and went on to reach further more.

Singapore together is one big family. Many things had happened, be it bad or good, after everything was back to normal, Singapore Citizens had stood strong and became stronger every time. It was indeed blessed to be able to have self-government. I feel proud to be a Singaporean.

800px-downtown_singaporeSingapore is my home, where I belong. But, I want to make it a better place for everyone and future generations. About 3 weeks ago, I watched a video on how Singapore was going to be like or was planned to be like in 15 years. The video was made in 2007. In the video they featured things like screen popping out and you could tell everything from there. A lot of new high-tech stuff and others. One thing in the video that Singapore had accomplished was the Singapore Flyer. I have not been on the flyer before but by the look of it, you could tell that Singapore was about to do so much more! Some of my friends thought that Singapore could not accomplish it, well not in 15 years. But, I think Singapore can accomplish it. With all the brains and technology that Singapore has and with all the interest, Im sure we can make it happen.

In 50 years, I envision Singapore being, more peaceful. I hope Singaporeans are more confident in whatever they do. Nowadays I see students and even adults, giving up on things easily. Just last week during the National Day celebration, I saw a group of girls quarreling just because neither of them wanted to model for the catwalk. I heard them shouting, “I don’t want to do!!” or “You do lah!!” Most people in Singapore have picked up the habit of using ‘Singlish’ .

I think Singaporeans must learn to be more eager to do things, especially taking part in voluntary activities such as helping out the less fortunate. I also envision Singapore being a more courteous country. Singaporeans are always in the habit of not greeting other people. Sometimes when there is another person walking by, we always forget to greet them. We also now misuse the word “hello”. You may think how can we misuse the word hello but we can. Most Singaporeans now use the word “hello” to get peoples attention, which I think is not good.

Lastly, I envision Singapore to be a peaceful and happy nation. No riots and no wars. Racially harmonious. I know Singapore now is racially harmonious but just in case anything happens, I wouldnt want a riot like Maria Hertogh riot to repeat again. Racial harmony is important in the future and if we keep up the harmony, I’m sure we’ll have a bright future ahead of us. Go Singapore!!!

kallangracialriotTo me, the most important moment in Singapore’s history between 1959 and 2009 was the 1964 racial riots. The riots between the Chinese and the Malays caused a lot of distress and pain to all the citizens of Singapore. Many people were injured and many lives were lost. The government had to impose curfew to stop more fights breaking out.

In order to mark the importance of racial harmony, the twenty-first of July was declared Racial Harmony Day. This was to remind students of all ages about racial and religious harmony and why we must never let racial riots happen again. Singaporeans today are aware of this and understand the importance of living together peacefully. Today we have four main races: Chinese, Malays, Indians and Eurasians that all live in peace and harmony together. Now as we can now understand and accept each other’s differences and cultures, it is unlikely that the racial riots will ever happen again. The 1964 racial riots taught us to treat people of other races and religions equally, help each other and live in peace with one another. This is why I think the most important moment in Singapore’s history between 1959 to 2009 was the 1964 racial riots.

singapore4I am proud to be a Singaporean because Singapore is an ever progressing, multi-racial society, and we have friends from other races and religions. Singapore is clean and green, and here we live in harmony and peace, as we have no natural disasters. Singapore’s stability is due to the good leadership of our government. We also enjoy a very good education system in school. This is because the syllabus is appropriate and there are good and efficient teachers that are able to bring across the lesson to the students effectively. Moreover, the Singapore education system does not only stress on your academics but also aims for your overall development, including such factors such as character building and aesthetics. This can be done as schools provide extra curriculum activities and arts classes. However, if we did not declare our independence, we might have to follow another education system. So what are the chances of that form of system being as good and efficient as the one we have now?

Singapore’s independence day was on 9th August 1965, when Lee Kuan Yew announced Singapores separation from Malaysia. “For me, it is a moment of anguish. All my life, my whole adult life, I have believed in merger,” said Lee Kuan Yew. This was also the feeling of many other people living in Singapore at that time. So the people in Singapore worked together, to make Singapore prosper. Singapore’s independence day is important to me as it tells me that we do not need to rely on others, so long as we work together and strive for our goals, we will definitely make it. Looking at Singapore now, it tells us that actually we can survive independently!

Looking forward, I envision Singapore to be even more technologically advanced in the future. There might be floating cars, teleportation systems, and scientists might have found a way for us to sleep on clouds. However, as many things keep changing, what makes Singapore is still its people. The people will remain, gracious, loving and kind. Singapore will keep on progressing, and remain a harmonious, multi-racial society. Even when some Singaporeans go overseas to work or stay, they will still call Singapore home!

Singapore has changed a lot since 50 years ago. 50 years ago, Singapore did not have high-rise buildings, flats, etc. We had only shop houses. But now, Singapore has high-rise buildings, flats and many more establishments.

I am proud to be a Singaporean because Singapore is my homeland. I was born here, and I belong here. Wherever I go, I will always remember that I am, and always will be, a Singaporean. Singapore has become what it is today because of our leaders that time, as well as our forefathers. They had done our nation proud.

Singapore has all kinds of interesting places and tourist attractions. These make me proud of Singapore. When I sing the national anthem and hold my clenched fist to my chest while reciting the pledge, I am filled with pride.

For me, it is a moment of anguish. “All my life, my whole adult life, I have believed in merger,” said Lee Kuan Yew in 1965. The people also had different feelings on the separation. But, we progressed together as one people, one nation, one Singapore to make what Singapore is today.

Fifty years from now I envision Singapore to be just like it is today, only better. Singapore will progress further. There will be more athletes and every year we will win several trophies. The education system in Singapore will have more interaction with technology. The National Day Parade will be grander, too. There will be more fireworks, and the fireworks will spell out ‘Happy Birthday Singapore’ . The parade will also have more high-tech facilities. In order to enable Singapore to progress further in peace and harmony, we have to respect each other’s religions and beliefs. That way, we can continue to work together to strengthen our racial and religious harmony in Singapore.

megan1I’m proud to be a Singaporean because Singapore is a very beautiful and clean island. I think that this is the place I should call home because I can really feel secure and safe. Singapore is a multi racial place where there are lots of different races and religions. I think we should keep harmony in our country because if we do not have harmony, we will have war. Then other countries will also take advantage because of this and take over Singapore.

I am also proud to be a Singaporean because Singapore handles crimes like a bomb threat, murders, robberies or kidnap case very efficiently. The SAF and the police take the part to protect us from any dangers.

Fifty years from now I envision Singapore will be more clean and beautiful. I also hope that more tourists will come to Singapore because Singapore will gain more popularity. I hope too that Singapore will be peaceful and do not start any war with other countries like World War II.

Although Singapore is nice and have everything we need, we still need take precautions and not depend on others. We will be independent and do our part as a Singaporean.

ist2_2481652_singapore_flag_iconThe most important moment in Singapore’s history is on the 9th of August 1965. This day was the day when Singapore finally gained independence from the British colonial masters. From this day, Singapore has made extremely fast progress and has developed into a prosperous and racially harmonious nation. Not only did this day present a major success for Singapore, it also brought many major changes to our home.

Ever since free from the British rule, Singapore has become an independent country with rather stable politics, which is the main reason for our peaceful and gracious society. Along with the improvements in our society, our technology has evolved and our number of achievements have risen drastically. With the technology in this current era, Singapore has achieved much and has overtaken many other countries in terms of competitiveness.

f1_grand_prix_logoAnother significant moment in Singapore’s history is the year 2008. In this fateful year, Singapore was chosen to host both the world renowned Formula 1 competition and the Youth Olympic Games in 2010. This increased our tourism rate by a lot as people from all around the world came to Singapore to watch these eye-opening grand events. With the reliable government and the harmonious and hardworking citizens of Singapore, we have shown other countries how much a small red dot like Singapore can achieve in such a short time.
