Posted by shuping

Together with the NAFA Department of Fashion Studies, The Singapore Art Museum will present the Wu Guanzhong Fashion Parade on Friday, 31 July, 7pm at the auditorium of the museum. Four final-year students from the NAFA Department of Fashion Studies will showcase 16 ready-to-wear outfits (three women collection and a menswear series), inspired by the works of internationally renowned artist, Wu Guanzhong.

Here’s a sneak preview of four of the outfits that will be showcased during the fashion parade.

Inspired by Wu Guanzhong’s art piece from 1991 titled A Dream in the Daytime, the design of the above outfit and its series speak of blackness, whiteness and some colours streaming into space. Together with three other outfits in the series, Lin Lin uses bolder strokes as compared to the original painting, so as to further enhance the prints on fabrics such as silk and satin.

Lines of laces (the picture above), designed by Eng Hwee San, is inspired by the painting Dots & Line Greeting Spring, which depicts a tree in spring with all its charms. This outfit uses materials such as chiffon, taffeta and silk to show the softness, a good description of the tree in spring.

Drawing ideas from Marriage ties on the Wall (II), this series of outfits by Jennifer Tihin recreates the mixture of reds and greens and the intertwining of vines and ivies from the painting by having multiple-stitching lines and French knots on organza and Duchess satin.

The final series of outfits is designed by Michelle Elizabeth who takes inspiration from Wild Vines with Flowers like Pearls. This menswear collection, named Solitary, portrays the melancholic feeling of being a homesick wanderer, lost alone in a cold snowstorm. Designed to be edgy and contemporary, it is layered with knits and voile, and coupled with twill. Skinny bottoms are also matched with oversized drapery tops.

Interested to know how art can also be part of your outfits, this is a fashion parade which you will not want to miss.
