A Great, Great Evening

Posted by yishhed

It was a great, great evening for the 100 lucky fans who won a pair tickets to I Love Museums‘ screening of It’s A Great, Great World at the National Museum of Singapore! Having heard rave reviews from friends about the family, I jumped at the chance to watch the film along with fans of I Love Museums and the team last Friday night. Kudos to the I Love Museums‘ team for pulling this event off and the 100 fans (plus their friends and family) who joined us for the evening!

The early birds were treated to a free goodie bag (which I missed out on!) as well as a Treasure Hunt which promised these prizes (which I was barred from, boo):

It was pretty fun seeing everybody scuttling in and out of the Living Galleries before the feasting began. Once everyone had their chance to grab some yummy local fare, we proceeded to the Gallery Theatre for the screening …

The crowd rushing in once the doors were opened!!

But of course, we had to first give out the prizes to the winners of the Treasure Hunt. Prizes were given out for the fastest entries as well as the Top 4 submissions:

Finally, the movie screening started and we were all treated to what, in my opinion, was a pretty good made-in-Singapore film. It’s A Great Great World features a bevy of stars and is set in Tua Seh Kai, Singapore’s legendary amusement park. Weaving interchangeably between the present and the past, director Kelvin Tong takes you through the lives of the people who lived and worked in the area through four short stories:

There were moments where I wasn’t too impressed by the acting, but overall, I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane since people of my age never got a chance to know Tua Seh Kai. The film was funny at times, and at others bittersweet. For the older members in the audience, I’m sure it was also a nostalgic and memorable experience revisiting this famous old nightspot. If you haven’t seen the film yet, this is one film which you should bring your parents or grandparents to before its screening ends!
