Everyone knows of Little Nonya TV series on MediaCorp that became such a hit – they produced their own DVDs! My family watched the drama series religiously but I was too busy back then for a sit-down. Even so, Iwould sometimes stop for a moment on my way to the kitchen to admire the Peranakan food and style. So it was only natural that I made my way down to the Peranakan Museum (TPM) to satiate my curiosity for their fascinating culture. Entering TPM was akin to being IN the movie; it was the exact setting, only better – I had the chance to see the various Peranakan outfits and their beautiful furniture up close.

Also featured is the Peranakan dining room which makes you want to own these fanciful tea sets.

Not only that, TPM is currently revisiting the Tale of Ramayana. I already knew it as one of those favourite tales told by our parents and teachers, but I must admit I have never bothered for a bedtime story. Anyhow, this time there were the artefacts on display to reel me into the story, and so I educated myself on the adventure of Rama and Sita, who are believed to be the reincarnations of a God and Goddess.

- You could be Rama and Sita for a minute if you want to..

- There is also, among many others, the Thai version

- Artworks depicting several scenes from the story

- The war between Rama and the demon who abducted Sita
Got to say, I never thought I could be this entertained. Broken down in seven chapters, patrons of the exhibit get to see also the visual arts depicting and symbolising the actual events. Whether or not you believe the story, there are always the morals you learn at the end.
So! Pretty cool I found this museum to be. There is just this homely feeling to the overall concept…but of course, there is already the living room, kitchen and dining room in their rightful places.
And on the way out, catch some blessings. I caught an Insect, which says I will have plenty to eat.

Which is great, considering my love for food.
