The Malay Heritage Centre is closing for redevelopment, so there’s free entry from now till 30 April 2011!

The Malay Heritage Centre was unexpectedly spacious. It used to be a palace where Singapore’s Sultans lived.

I remember old Mama shops, but their declines happened too soon for me to develop actual feelings for them, but during my mom’s time, these convenience stores used to be quite friendly places to visit.
They’re now slowly being replaced by newer, more corporate mini-marts.

These are some tins of cigarettes we’d probably never find in Singapore now.

A replica of a typical kampong I’ve always heard of but never actually been in.

The interior of most HDB flats in the 1960s. My grandparents’ house was almost just like this, after they’d moved into public housing just like most other Singaporeans did.

Around the renovation areas, a wall was built up, and visitors can leave well-wishes for the museum.

This was indeed home to Singapore's Malay royalty for many generations. Shame that when the government 'repossessed' this property, some of the original royal descendants were forced to resettle in HDB flats. According to http://www.singapore-window.org/sw99/90707sta.htm, 14 resettled residents would share $350,000/year for 30 years.
