Think of Orchard Road and The Centrepoint is probably not the most iconic building that springs to mind; however, most of us will probably have some memory of the place because it’s one of the oldest modern buildings along the Orchard Road stretch. Laokokok takes us back further in time – to the period when a railway track ran across Orchard Road and traces how the Cold Storage Depot eventually became The Centrepoint.

Of course, the railway track isn’t there anymore, but there was an interesting anecdote about how life in Orchard Rood came to a halt when trains passed by:
It is said that when the train crosses above, the pedestrians will come to a standstill as the Chinese believed that it will bring bad luck if the train crossed above your head.
