George Yeo blogs about NM

Posted by noelbynature

BG Yeo posts a short account about his visit to the (updated) National Museum. I found it amusing that he mentions the old whale (the bones, not the museum!) and how many older people used to associate the museum with the whale bones, while now, a whole generation of younger museum-goers don’t know about the whale bones.

Our museums have improved beyond recognition in the last 15 years. For many years, Singaporeans associated the National Museum with the old whale bones hung from the ceiling. Step by step, we built up our expertise and converted old heritage buildings into museums – the old SJI into the Art Museum, Tao Nan School and Empress Place into the Asian Civilizations Museum, and now, the old Raffles Museum into the new Singapore History Museum. In the coming years, the old City Hall and Supreme Court buildings will also become museums.

PS: I am one such younger museum-goer. Anyone with a picture of the whale bones to share on this blog?
