Sentosa Primary School

Posted by noelbynature

While all the buzz is going on about the construction of Resorts World at Sentosa, laokokok picks up an interesting snippet about the island paradise: did you know there was once a primary school on Sentosa? In fact, the Sentosa Primary School became a tourist attraction that will continue to live on in name at the new Resorts World Complex.

So what attraction did the Sentosa Primary School become? In the 1970s, the school became the temporary premises of the Maritime Museum. If you don’t remember the museum, it’s because it was closed down in 2001.

When the new Resorts World opens next year, another Maritime Museum will be present, this time showcasing the maritime trade that has been carried out in this region for the last two thousand years (the old museum showcased the history of Singapore’s port). Hopefully this museum will outdo its predecessor.

Then again, who knows? As Singapore’s population grows and we might have to urbanise the outer islands of Singapore, perhaps a sizeable resident population will once again take root in Sentosa, and revive once more the need for a school. If so, Sentosa Primary School would come to a full circle.
