What if you could view the all too familiar Singapore landscape in a different light? Or hear the candid stories behind our National Monuments that few know about? Get re-acquainted with Singapore’s built heritage in Of Monuments and Memories, a special travelling exhibition organised by the Preservation of Monuments Board (PMB).

In conjunction with the exhibition, don’t miss this opportunity to visit the Command House, a colonial-style house designed by Architect Frank Brewer, known for his work on several other colonial style buildings in Singapore.

Built in 1930s, this house served as the residence of the Admiral of the Fleet, Royal Navy, during the British colonial era. Sited off Kheam Hock Road, Major General W.G.S. Dobbie and his wife shifted into this house in end October 1938. The Command House subsequently housed fifteen succeeding British military officials, including Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, until the British military withdrew from Singapore 1971. Following the withdrawal, the House served as the official residence of the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Yeoh Ghim Seng who lived there until 1989. It later served as a venue for State Functions by former Singapore President Ong Teng Cheong.
