Southernmost Singapore

Posted by noelbynature

If you go to Siloso Beach in Sentosa, you might see a sign parading itself as the Southernmost point in continental Asia – wow! But Singapore extends further south than Sentosa island, so do you know what the southernmost point of Singapore is?

Jerome visits this point, on Pulau Satumu, whereupon sits the Raffles Lighthouse.

It was soon time to ascend the flight of steps up to the top of the lighthouse – 107 steps we were told, 86 built into the lighthouse and a further 17 on the iron stairway up to the top – hard work even for the fit. Standing some 72 feet high, the lighthouse, the second oldest operated by Singapore (the oldest being Horsburg Lighthouse built in 1851), was built in 1855, on what was then referred to as Coney Islet, and looks none the worse for wear in spite of its age.

It’s a rare opportunity to see a side of Singapore not easily accessible to the public – check Jerome’s post out here.

  1. Albert Ong Said,

Tanjung Piai in Johor is touted as the southern most tip of the mainland continent of Asia. Quite an interesting place to visit. See:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanjung_Piai

  2. Ingat Saya Said,

The sign at Sentosa is therefore a piece of misinformation, judging by your writeup that Sg extends further south than Sentosa island.
So why put it up? *Shame*

  3. Lenox Said,

The term continental asia means it is connected by ways of causeway or bridges…. If you need a boat to reach, then it is not counted…..
