Victor answers his own question that had been unanswered for 8 months – where was this block of SIT (Singapore Improvement Trust) flats located?
It’s a block of flats that has a personal connection to Victor, since he lived there when he was a child. They were demolished during the early 80s, but through some clever deduction and comparisons with old photos, Victor’s managed to work out where they would have stood today in Albert Street. Dear great-great-great-grandchildren,
Today, I have this urge to write to all of you about my excursions to the Bukit Timah Railway Station and various parts along the KTM railway tracks on 4 Jun 2011. I do not know if you would ever experience these places like I did?
We hear ever so often about the loss of the community spirit when people moved from kampongs into HDB flats, which greatly diminished the space for social interactions. To be honest with you, I didn’t see the resemblance between the two pictures shown.But I’ll give him credit for the tender notice, the snap shot and the old map. Not to say that he must have a better knowledge of the area and the fact that he lived there makes him the right one to say if in fact the Albert Street is the place.
