Talk about having more names than the artist formerly known as Prince, who then changed his name to some symbol, and then changed his name back to Prince. Did you know that the MDIS University Campus in Queenstown was formerly known as the Queenstown Vocational Training Centre, which was in turn formerly known as ________, that was formerly known as ________ and prior to that was known as ________? Care to fill in the blanks?

If you need a clue, perhaps you can find some answers in Chun See’s blog:

Are you amazed and confused by the different names? I certainly am. But I am too lazy to go and research this subject. All I know is that the ITE, which stands for Institute for Technical Education (and not It’s The End), was formerly called VITB, or Vocational and Industrial Training Board; which itself was formerly called STI, or Singapore Technical Institute. I think the first name in my list, BVI was probably a part of the VITB. As for the 4th name – QVTC, this is the first time I come across it.

I think most people under 30 wouldn’t know what ‘BVI’ stands for – but it’s interesting to know that the name still existed in 1981 – less than 30 years ago – and there have been five name changes since! Can you think of other buildings in Singapore with a long history of name changes? I can only think of places who were once called by a different name, such as the Bestway Building at Palmer Road, which was once Singapore Polytechnic, but not really places with more name changes than that.

Of, and find out what BVI stands for in Good Morning Yesterday.
