Wee Kiat blogs on Retrievia about the Nanyang Gateway Arch, which curiously was not originally placed on campus, but at a prominent street junction in Jurong. Why?

In the old days, meaning the 1950’s and 1960’s, one would get to the campus by the old Upper JurongRoad. It would be a long and tiring bus ride and if there were no sign/ Arch, one could easily miss the correct bus stop to get off. After getting off the bus there would be a 2-3 kilometrewalk/cycle ride/drive along a quiet road before reaching the campus. What has happened is that the PIE has cut through this ‘quiet road’ and that is why the Arch is not on campus.
