Old Chinese time system

What are the common ways of telling the time? Most commonly, it’s based on the 24 hour time system where every hour is given a number (and then further divded into AM and PM to denote roughly day and night). In societies without precise timing systems, you would find the position of the sun to be the most common form on time indicator: sunrise, midday and sunset. Laokokok shares with is an old Chinese system for denoting the time:

As you can see, there are twelve ‘hours’, but each of those ‘hours’ are equivalent to two of our own standard hours. Laokokok recounts a story from his father about how different dialect groups would observe the start of the Chinese New Year at different times. You can read about it here.
