By far, the most prominent of the Singapore Biennale 2011 exhibits must be the Merlion Hotel – and why wouldn’t it be so? – since the Merlion is such an icon for our city. Tatzu Nishi may have temporarily denied tourists the chance of taking a picture of the Merlion in its natural habitat, but he has also built a space for visitors to have some personal face-time with Singapore’s icon.

Here are some interesting posts about the Merlion Hotel from the web:
- How big is the Merlion? Fashionartisan describes the feeling of coming face to face with the usually-towering Merlion.
- Anja’s many pictures of the interior of the Merlion hotel provides an almost virtual tour of the room.
- However, Aram gives us a real virtual tour of the Merlion Hotel with a VR representation of the room with views of the toilet and the balcony as well.
If you’re looking for a chance to stay the night at the Merlion Hotel, alas, it’s sold out. The Merlion will return to its natural habitat by the middle of June.

I like Merlion. This is the great symbol as the Singaporean always love and like it. This Singapore’s icon has great design.

I just met a Taiwanese tourist last evening. She has asked for directions to get to our iconic Merlion. When I told her about the Biennale, she was surprised and disappointed that the Merlion is blocked from view. It is an iconic sculpture for many, but yet it is for the eyes of the privileged few only?
