Get closer to understanding Salvador Dalí’s thoughts and dreams at Dalí: Mind of a Genius – The Exhibition at the ArtScience Museum.

Dalí was a brilliant modern artist known to most for his Surrealist works and eccentric behavior. This exhibition takes us on a rare journey through his visionary instinct, and allows us to closely appreciate Dalí’s influence.

One of the themes explored in this exhibition is Femininity and Sensuality. You will notice some symbols Dalí uses in his drawings to express his insecurities, ideas of womanhood and sexuality.

Another recurring theme in Dalí’s works is Mythology and Religion. The core of Mythology is closely linked to Surrealism, reflecting the influence of the idea of the unconscious mind.

“The difference between false memories and true ones is the same as for jewels: it is always the false ones that look the most real, the most brilliant.”
– Salvador Dalí

Since Dalí believed that dreams were a pure expression of his personality, he is able to use objects, people and situations and translate his ‘memories’ into his brand of art instead of being restricted by reality.

“Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.”
– Salvador Dalí

Surrealism aims for the expression of the unconscious mind, which is similar to Dalí’s method of using illogical combination of objects to create art. The gate passes realism and leaps into the play of thought.
