The HeritageFest is into full-swing at Suntec City!

Swing by Suntec City this week and you’ll find the hub of activity for this year’s HeritageFest. At the Galleria Foyer, situated at the entrance closest to the MRT route, you’ll encounter the shape of things to come, or rather, the things that was in the Kid’s Zone. I’m sure the adults would have seen a gigantic grinder as well as glass bottles before, but this gallery of items from the not-too-distant past await to be discovered by the young ones.

Get up close with the books, knick-knacks and toys we played when we were young – including a table for playing Five Stones with. It was quite heartening to see parents remember the toys from their youth and also teaching them to their children.

Speaking of families, the gallery of black-and-white family photos was a glimpse into the dressing and style of the different communities back then:

Doesn’t that boy on the right have the most disturbing stare? Seeing everyone decked out to the nines and looking so regal in the photos reminded me how much we take our photography for granted – back when these pictures were taken, taking the family photo must have been an important occasion. When was the last time you took a family photo?
Back at the main exhibition at the Tropics Atrium, nostalgia and the stories behind the object took centre stage. Do you know the back stories to these interesting items?

Again, there’s another table for kids to discover more games!

There’s lot’s to see and do at this year’s Singapore HeritageFest – besides the exhibits, there’s an ongoing programme of performances from gamelan to kathakali, heritage excursions, Culture 101 talks, and the MyStory Portal – a chance for you to share stories about the oldest items in your family collections. To find out more, give the festival hotline a call at 67360503. The HeritageFest is on until 29 July.
