Now you don’t have to fly halfway across the world the examine the mysteries and wonders of the Congo – the Asian Civilisations Museum has brought the magic of the Congo right at our doorstep! In Congo River: Arts of Central Africa you will see collections from the very belly of Africa – and how many times do you think an opportunity like this comes into our shores? Covered in Stardust explored the exhibition, as well as the rest of the ACM last month during Explore Singapore! 2010.
It should be noted that the Congo is a region that spans the Congo River, which runs through three countries of central Africa: the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Gabon. It’s like taking a tour of three countries for the price of one. For art aficionados, you might be interested to know that works by Pablo Picasso are part of the exhibition. What does Pablo Picasso have to do with the Congo? You’ll just have to visit the ACM to find out.
You can read about Covered in Stardust’s visit to the Asian Civilisations Museum and the collections she saw here. Her recommendation? “This place is worth the ticket price.” (and, as a frequent visitor to the museum I heartily agree!) Congo River: Arts of Central Africa will be on display at the Asian Civilisations Museum until April 10. For more details, click here.
