Hey you, yes you! Can you still remember what you were doing on 16 July 2008? Well, I could certainly recall because I was at the launch of the Festival Hub@ Suntec City.
Once again, Singapore HeritageFest ’08 marked its presence at Suntec City with more buzz and activities. On the day itself, Ms Grace Fu, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Education made an official launch of the inaugural Singapore HeritageFest 2008 at Suntec City, Tropics Atrium.

To spice up the festival, there were stage performances which were specially presented by students. The pulsating beats and dance performances really amplify the atmosphere with much cultural gusto that I couldn’t resist myself tapping my feet according to the beats.

This year, Singapore HeritageFest evolves around the theme “Who’s your Hero?” Don’t be mistaken, National Heritage Board is not talking about the protagonists in the latest movies such as Dark Knight or Hellboy. Rather, this year’s HeritageFest wants Singaporeans to celebrate heroes who are ordinary people with extraordinary spirits.
Hence, between 12 July and 27 July at Suntec City-Tropics Atrium, the exhibition on “Who’s your Hero?” will cover the stories of our local heroes such as our early pioneers who gave selflessly to build Singapore, many of whom streets, buildings and monuments are named after.
Uncovering one of the origins behind the street names of Singapore- Yishun is named after late Mr Lim Nee Soon – a generous philanthropist who had a keen interest in social and community matters.

I am sure all of you will be familiar with this stack of Tiger Balm over here. However, are you aware about the history of the man behind this brand- Mr Aw Boon Haw?

Don’t miss out the chance to learn more about many other heroic stories on our pioneers who made a difference to our life, including frontline medical workers who went beyond the call of duty and athletes whose endurance and triumphs did our nation proud. If you have missed the opening of the event, fret not, HeritageFest 2008 will be ongoing until 27 July.
