The Singapore Art Museum & SAM at 8Q exhibits contemporary art and abstract ideas siphoned and molded into paintings, photographs and architecture works. I believe the art pieces are products of the artists’ feelings and thoughts, and they are subjective to different individuals. I was certainly inspired.

In actuality, it looks like a puddle of water with some pebbles floatings..

Can you imagine how much the artist had to focus just to create this?

Not really where you want to be display any clumsiness, no.

At 8Q, be sure not to miss this particular exhibit titled His Mother Is A Theatre by Suzann Victor. I personally believe the installation will intrigue everyone, whether or not you’re artistically inclined. I was puzzled by the source of the clanking sounds since the wok lids of the installation aren’t moving. Does anyone have the answer to that?

A friend had asked me about how the still nature of Art can encapsulate anyone’s interest. I think people don’t realise Art is actually everywhere and everything you do, and these art pieces are the shapes of inspiration, reality and imagination. Made by people like you and I, except they found the courtesy for escapism from the hectic society every now and then to create these works. Is doodling an art? Sure. And eating? Finely one. Am I artistic? You bet. There you go.

So the next time you need a breather from reality, head down to the Singapore Art Museum and 8Q to gain a unique, and perhaps more fitting, perspective of the world.

  1. Ng Yi-Sheng Said,

What’s a little distracting for me is the fact that this is a showcase of our contemporary Southeast Asian collection, yet the countries of origin of the artists aren’t displayed. One curator explained that this was because of the complexity of the migration histories of many artists.

Anyway, for the exhibits you’re got photos of: Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, Singapore, Thailand, Singapore.

  2. dreamscape Said,

Hey Yi-Sheng, you raised an interesting point. Perhaps it wasn’t so much the curator’s intent to segregate the artists and pigeonhole them by their country or what is expected of artists from there? :)
